We’re excited to announce that a Tentative Agreement has been reached in negotiations between Brooklyn Center Community Schools and support professionals. With the support of the BCCS community, workers have been able to make significant progress on the issues raised in this letter. Stay tuned for more information.
To Superintendent Baker and the Brooklyn Center School Board,
Over many years, support professionals in Brooklyn Center have worked hand-in-hand with students and staff to ensure students reach their fullest potential. We are Educational Assistants, Secretaries, Restorative Justice Practitioners, Receptionists, Interpreters, and much more. We are parents and integral members of the Brooklyn Center community.
The most important, all-encompassing goal of BCCS is Equity. We, the support professionals of Brooklyn Center Community Schools, are asking that this commitment to equity extend to us, one of the most diverse and experienced groups in the district:
Brooklyn Center Community Schools couldn’t run without the expertise and invaluable experience of its support staff, but we have been marginalized for too long. It is time to demonstrate talk through action, starting at home with the people who work hard to make life better for the children of our district.
We, the undersigned, call for the District to sit down across the table, try forward-thinking, outside-of-the-box solutions, and reach a fair agreement as soon as possible.
